The English are not all British

On holiday in Jamaica, they talk with respect and reverence towards the British.

They refer to anyone from the UK who is in a position of power as “British”. The Navy are British, the diplomats and the Queen are British.

Interestingly, layabouts on the beach (like me) were termed “English” or “Scottish” rather than “British”.

Enquiring in the office here as to who signed themselves as being of “English” or “British” nationality on documents gave
some interesting distinctions across the team.

Asking a young lady in the office why she puts English and not British her response is – “it’s what I am”.

It is not religious but there is (and always was) a difference between the British and the English.

After the catalyst in Scotland, the next election will be won or lost on who can untangle and leverage this correctly.
