Orphaned Clients called Colin at a “Castle Arms” near you…

On a very rare (ahem) visit or two to the village pub, Colin and I have become acquainted…

He is a typical IFA client, semi-retired and you would probably deem him to be at least affluent.

After a mid-management career in IT for a FTSE 250 he still does a lucrative couple of days a week consultancy before returning to his golf course.

Colin used to have a financial advisor, he used to also get advice on his investments and he still has 4 properties which are the results of being posted around the UK by his employer.

I was curious… why does Colin not have a financial adviser anymore?

“I don’t think he’s around anymore, anyway last I heard, he wanted to charge me a few hundred quid to tell me what to do”

Here’s the bizarre thing though, Colin’s next sentence was to tell me “I probably could do with some advice actually”

You already know, I am not an adviser. So hadn’t he heard of the MAS though where he could get his house in order for free?

He stopped for a second and enquired if they were something to do with mortgages?

The opportunity for you is that these “orphaned” clients are everywhere since RDR and there are very few firms actively using “client magnets” or other low cost, high return strategies to attract them back in.
